Tour Highlights
Itinerary
Angkor Wat
Begin your day exploring the iconic Angkor Wat, the crown jewel of the Angkor complex. As you stroll through its grand halls and courtyards, admire the intricate bas-reliefs depicting ancient myths and legends. The temple’s majestic towers and serene atmosphere provide a glimpse into the grandeur of the Khmer Empire, leaving you captivated by its scale and artistry.
Banteay Kdei
Next, head to Banteay Kdei, a peaceful and less-visited temple nestled within the jungle. Wander through its maze-like corridors, decorated with beautifully carved lintels and doorways. The tranquil surroundings and unique architectural features make Banteay Kdei a hidden gem in the Angkor complex.
Ta Prohm
Continue your adventure to Ta Prohm, famously known as the “Tomb Raider Temple.” Here, nature has reclaimed the ruins, with enormous tree roots entwining the ancient stone structures. The interplay of man-made and natural elements creates an enchanting, almost mystical atmosphere, providing a perfect photo opportunity.
Lunch Break
Pause for a lunch break at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional Khmer cuisine and relax before the afternoon explorations.
Ta Keo
After lunch, visit Ta Keo, an imposing temple mountain known for its massive stone blocks and steep stairways. Although the temple was left unfinished, its grandeur and simplicity make it a striking example of early Khmer architecture. Climbing to the upper tiers rewards you with beautiful views of the surrounding forest.
Angkor Thom
Then, explore the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Visit the Bayon Temple, famous for its smiling stone faces, and stroll along the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, both adorned with intricate carvings. Discover the historic Phimeanakas and pass through the South Gate, a grand entrance lined with statues depicting a mythological scene.
Phnom Bakeng or South Gate
Conclude your tour with a hike up Phnom Bakheng or South Gate of Angkor Thom, the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the Angkor complex. As the sun dips below the horizon, the temple’s silhouette is bathed in warm, golden light, creating a breathtaking view of Angkor Wat and the surrounding jungle. This magical moment is the ideal way to end your day of exploration.
