Itinerary

Please note that all times are approximate.

Begin your morning with a visit to Ta Prohm Temple, famously known as the “Tomb Raider Temple.” Ta Prohm has been left largely in its natural state, with immense tree roots wrapping around ancient stone walls and structures. As you wander through its maze-like corridors and weathered galleries, you’ll witness the powerful blend of nature and history, creating an awe-inspiring scene. The morning light filters gently through the dense canopy, casting a soft glow over the ruins and creating an almost mystical atmosphere. This serene and hauntingly beautiful site offers an unforgettable start to your day of exploration in Angkor.

Next, you will visit Banteay Kdei, a serene Buddhist monastery nestled within the embrace of lush jungle. As you wander through its maze-like corridors and intricately carved doorways, you’ll discover the beauty of its architectural details and the tranquil atmosphere that envelops the temple. The impressive carvings, depicting various scenes from Buddhist mythology, showcase the artistry of the Khmer Empire. This peaceful setting invites reflection and appreciation, making Banteay Kdei a perfect conclusion to your exploration of the remarkable wonders of Angkor.

After exploring Banteay Kdei, make your way to Ta Keo, a temple renowned for its strikingly unfinished appearance. This towering temple mountain, constructed from massive sandstone blocks, features steep stairways that lead you to breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jungle. The temple’s simple yet majestic structure reflects the early Khmer architectural ambition, providing a glimpse into the grandeur that characterized the era. As you ascend its heights, take a moment to appreciate the vast expanse of nature that stretches out before you, making Ta Keo a compelling stop on your journey through the Angkor complex.

Continue your journey to Ta Nei Temple, a hidden gem nestled within the heart of the jungle. Unlike its more famous counterparts, Ta Nei offers a tranquil atmosphere where you can escape the crowds and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of its surroundings. As you approach, you’ll be greeted by the sight of massive tree roots intertwining with the ancient stone walls, creating a captivating fusion of nature and history.

Next, visit Preah Palilay, an enchanting temple known for its serene setting and historical significance. Tucked away in the jungle, this lesser-known site offers a peaceful retreat from the more crowded attractions of Angkor. As you approach the temple, you’ll notice its unique architectural features, including the striking sandstone pillars and intricately carved pediments.

Discover the remarkable site of Angkor Thom, the last great capital of the Khmer Empire, where you’ll explore several iconic attractions. You’ll visit at the South Gate, an impressive entrance guarded by stone statues that symbolize the celestial battle between gods and demons. Then, you’ll visit Bayon Temple, famous for its serene stone faces and intricate bas-reliefs depicting scenes from daily life and epic battles. Next, continue the Terrace of the Elephants, adorned with stunning carvings that narrate the grandeur of the royal court, and the Terrace of the Leper King, shrouded in mystery with its elaborate reliefs of deities and mythical figures. Ascend the majestic Baphuon Temple, a three-tiered pyramid offering panoramic views of the lost kingdom.

Take a break for lunch at a local Khmer restaurant, where you can savor the authentic flavors of Cambodian cuisine.

Finally, you will visit the iconic Angkor Wat, a true marvel of architectural grandeur. As you approach, be captivated by the stunning sight of the temple’s impressive façade and towering spires that soar against the sky. Inside, explore the expansive corridors adorned with intricate bas-reliefs that depict enchanting scenes from Hindu mythology and the rich history of the Khmer Empire. Climb the steep steps to the central sanctuary for breathtaking panoramic views and a profound sense of the temple’s spiritual importance.

I made the decision to go with Angkor Doors on pure spec and was very glad I did. Our guide Bunpheng Chan was professional, cheerful, knowledgeable and insightful on the both modern and historical Khmer history and events. We took a half day air conditioned car (4 hour) tour and visited the Wat and Angkor Thom/The Bayon.

Mr Pheng was one of the best tour guides I personally experienced. We never felt that he is trying to take advantage of us and had great passion for his job. He is an interesting person with a lot of knowledge for modern and ancient history and we had amazing talks including big doses of humour!

We used Ankor doors for a 2 day guided tour and it was fabulous! Pheng’s English was good and his knowledge was great. It was very hot and water was provided all day. I don’t think you can visit Ankor Wat without a guide to help you navigate the site and the history.
