Itinerary

Please note that all times are approximate.

Begin your tour at Pre Rup, a temple mountain known for its majestic structure and warm-hued sandstone. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding jungle and admire the detailed carvings that represent the architectural brilliance of the Khmer Empire.

Continue to East Mebon, originally built on an artificial island. The temple is guarded by impressive stone elephants at each corner and features intricate carvings depicting Hindu mythology. The well-preserved sculptures and serene surroundings make East Mebon a captivating stop.

Visit Ta Som, a smaller yet enchanting temple famous for the large fig tree that engulfs its eastern gate. This fusion of nature and ancient architecture provides a picturesque and mysterious atmosphere as you wander through its quiet corridors.

Next, explore Neak Poan, a unique temple situated on an artificial island. Known as the “Entwined Serpents,” the central pond and surrounding smaller pools symbolize the healing waters of Hindu mythology. Its tranquil setting amidst the water creates a peaceful ambiance.

Make your way to Preah Khan, a sprawling complex that once served as a monastery, school, and city. Discover its long corridors, hidden shrines, and intricately carved stonework that depict scenes from Buddhist and Hindu traditions. The temple’s mix of history and architecture makes it a must-visit site.

Take a break at a local restaurant to savor some traditional Khmer dishes and recharge before the afternoon’s exploration.

After lunch, enter the ancient city of Angkor Thom through its grand South Gate. Explore Bayon Temple, renowned for its giant stone faces that smile serenely in all directions. Walk along the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, both adorned with intricate carvings. Discover the hidden wonders of Phimeanakas, nestled within the royal palace complex, as you delve deeper into Angkor Thom’s grandeur.

Conclude your day with a hike up Phnom Bakeng for sunset. From this hilltop temple, enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Angkor complex and the surrounding jungle as the sun sets, casting a golden hue over the landscape. This magical moment offers the perfect ending to your first day.

Start your second day with the iconic sunrise at Angkor Wat. As the sun rises, the temple’s silhouette is illuminated, creating a breathtaking scene. After sunrise, explore the temple’s grand galleries and courtyards, marveling at the intricate bas-reliefs that depict epic tales from Hindu mythology.

Time for a short breakfast break, ask your hotel to prepare you a breakfast picnic!

After breakfast, visit Ta Prohm, the “Tomb Raider Temple.” Here, massive tree roots weave through ancient stone walls, creating an extraordinary fusion of nature and architecture. Its mysterious and enchanting atmosphere offers a glimpse into the temple’s past glory.

Next, head to Banteay Kdei, a serene Buddhist monastery surrounded by jungle. Wander through its maze-like corridors and beautifully carved doorways, taking in the temple’s peaceful ambiance and intricate artistry.

Continue to Banteay Srei, the “Citadel of Women.” This temple is famed for its pink sandstone and delicate carvings, considered some of the finest in Angkor. The intricate details of the bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology make this temple a true masterpiece.

Conclude your tour with a visit to Banteay Samre, a beautifully preserved temple with a moat surrounding its serene grounds. Its towers and courtyards resemble those of Angkor Wat, showcasing classic Khmer architecture. The tranquil setting of Banteay Samre offers a perfect end to your two-day exploration of Angkor’s wonders.

I made the decision to go with Angkor Doors on pure spec and was very glad I did. Our guide Bunpheng Chan was professional, cheerful, knowledgeable and insightful on the both modern and historical Khmer history and events. We took a half day air conditioned car (4 hour) tour and visited the Wat and Angkor Thom/The Bayon.

Mr Pheng was one of the best tour guides I personally experienced. We never felt that he is trying to take advantage of us and had great passion for his job. He is an interesting person with a lot of knowledge for modern and ancient history and we had amazing talks including big doses of humour!

We used Ankor doors for a 2 day guided tour and it was fabulous! Pheng’s English was good and his knowledge was great. It was very hot and water was provided all day. I don’t think you can visit Ankor Wat without a guide to help you navigate the site and the history.
